Electrical equipment failure can result in costly downtime, loss of revenue or data and is one of the most frequent causes of fire. Electrical faults can occur even in correctly designed and protected electrical installations due to such causes as component failure, resistive heating of loose or corroded connections, inline arcing, thinning of conductors on tight radius bends etc. Thermography is one tool that can assist in the preventative diagnosis of faults before they result in equipment failure.

Periodic routine inspections can identify hotspots and allow the fault to be rectified.

Electrical equipment can often be surveyed without the need for denergising systems or approaching high voltage conductors.
